It's safe to say that I'm a hashtag beginner. Just over a year ago — when I first made the switch from being a therapist to writing full-time — my boyfriend, Tom, actually had to teach me what a hashtag was.
That being said, even I recognized the trending #lovewall shots taking over social media. It's easy to see why the colorful mural became an insta-sensation. Its popping color-palette and inclusive "love is love" message has sent fashion bloggers and influencers on a mission to get their photos taken in front of the internet's most perfect backdrop.
Jodee Debes — photographer and insta-sensation in her own right, whose work has been featured in Harper's Bazaar — is one such photographer whose viral work impacted the trend from its inception. As she explains, "Photogenic walls have become a massive sensation in the social and influencer space. Not only is it an amazing way for artists to gain momentum, but it creates beauty in the city and an interested space for memories to be created."
Just to give you a sense of how viral internet trends take hold, when Jodee took fashion blogger Sydne Summer's portrait above, all 175k+ of Sydne's followers on Instagram caught a glimpse of the professionally scouted-out location. The rest, as they say, is history.
It all began when James Goldcrown, a self-taught artist and fashion photographer from the UK, created the original Bleeding Hearts mural which has since gone viral. His spray-painted work is so buzzy these days that on Instagram alone, #lovewall brings up over 40,000 posts, with #bleedinghearts coming in just under 56,000.
That's not all, either. Numerous collaborations are underway — from a James Goldcrown X Maybelline launch, to Henri Bendel's NYC storefront, to placement in SoHo House, the exclusive mecca of creatives.

Most recently, Related Garments teamed up with Instagram's favorite artist to launch the most photogenic socks of all time. For those of you who adore James Goldcrown's love-centric street art or are just plain Instagram-obsessed, these Related Garments X James Goldcrown Limited Edition Bleeding Heart Socks ($15) are beyond perfect. P.S. A little birdie told us that model and actress Kate Upton owns her very own pair!
If you wear these footies and snap a pic in front of LA's most-instagrammed wall, who's to say that you won't be the internet's very next insta-sensation?
