I recently put together an article of the Top 5 Outerwear Trends to Shop in 2018, According to Fashion Influencers. Not only did I get an inside glimpse of the looks we'll be seeing on our favorite fashion bloggers, street-style stars, and in stores, but I've come dangerously close to splurging on a new car coat.
(What can I say? It's the best length for my small frame!)
Below are the favorite outerwear trends of some of fashion's leading influencers. Among them, the Senior Style Editor of Brit + Co., Zoey Washington, as well as fashion designer Luli Gugliotta Rodriguez of Laita Ba-Paris, and the fashion bloggers behind some of my favorite sites: Jill Lansky of The August Diaries, Reese Nguyen of Oui to Weekends, and Lily Sykora of The Afternoon Edit.
I want to give you brief look at what these leading ladies in fashion revealed to me, but also clue you in to one of my own personal favorites — the grunge-inspired, street-style staple: the Cargo coat. Yes, the military-inspired trend will continue on in 2018, so keep your eyes peeled.
When you hate being cold, you know that it's important to accumulate a range of outerwear to suit even your most mercurial moods. Recent additions to my collection include an oversized, shin-length camel-hued coat by Ralph Lauren; a Postcard coat that's great for layering; a wrapped wonder by Theory that I would live in if I could (ok, two); and a chic black blazer by Zadig et Voltaire...
But if I'm being honest, my casual go-to has become the olive green cargo coat in my closet. First thing in the morning — whether I walk my dogs, or head to yoga — I've been reaching for my oversized cargo coat. My favorite styles have removable hoods and I often layer it with athleisure and hoodies. (Real polished, huh.)
Shop these looks:
Gap Utility Trench (now $78); Revolve Jocelyn Cargo Coat ($1,395); Zadig & Voltaire Virginia Grunge Military Jacket ($398), my personal favorite.
The dressed-down feel of the look is perfect for days when you intentionally don't want to look polished. In other words, you're keeping it cas and sending a message that you DGAF. Or, you can always glam-it-up by learning stylish tricks from the fashionistas we love to follow.
