Kari Gran's Eco-Luxe Promise
Kari Gran is one of the eco-luxe beauty lines I have fallen in love with. They are an all-natural, green beauty brand that emphasizes protective prevention — what I like to call 'preventative anti-aging' — rather than resorting to overly harsh, corrective means. Their ethos embodies a version of beauty that is inclusive and all about self-love and self-care, handmaking beauty and skincare products with organic or wild-harvested ingredients.
What exactly does eco-luxe mean? To KG, it means that her products are free of petrochemicals, parabens, phthalates, mineral oils, chemicals, known toxins, preservatives, and synthetic fragrances. Her products are never tested on animals.
Similar to many other green-friendly brands in their niche, the company places an emphasis on sustainability. Their packaging is minimalist and they support recycling and re-use on principle. By comparison, some companies like LOLI Beauty boast "no-waste" packaging, although this is an industry-leading initiative.
I'd like to point out one more thing which is that Kari Gran herself personally inspires me. She created the line with her friend Lisa Strain after receiving an autoimmune diagnosis in her 20s — like me as a teen, and Stefani Padilla of La Tierra Sagrada. As she began to learn more about the intricately linked mind-body-beauty connection, she was inspired to create a line of products that wouldn't just be beautifying, but also pro-health. As a die-hard wellness-meets-beauty fan, I can't help but get extra excited about this line.
...Oh — and the Kari Gran Naked Lip Whip ($20) happens to be my all-time favorite lip treatment. I used the naked whip after my most recent skin reaction — the one that landed me in an LED light bed — and it helped save and restore my post-apocalyptic face.

Dry Lip Woes
I have suffered from dry lips for as long as I can remember. I think this is due in part to the fact that I need to drink more water, but I also do have particularly dry skin on certain parts of my body. It's so important to make sure that our beauty products are non-toxic because they're absorbed through our skin... and when it comes to our lips, because we end up swallowing it! That's why I'm always on the search for non-petroleum-based lippies.
Before discovering this fabulous product, I resorted to the use of oils on my lips to give them adequate hydration. I adore using Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Oil Mini ($40) on my lips, and have experimented with even-more-nourishing plum oil blends, like LOLI Beauty Plum Elixir ($78).
This is important: When I apply oil to my lips regularly, they increase in size in a big way. To give you a point of reference, I consider Dr. Jennifer Armstrong of Advanced Skincare Surgery & MedCenter to be the best cosmetic injector in the industry. She is a world-leading anti-aging expert, heading a multi-site practice in the world's foremost capital of vanity: Orange County. (If you know me, I love to mock OC, but she actually is an artist.)
She emphasizes natural results, symmetry, and the subtlest use of cosmetic injectables — along with a range of fascinating skincare treatments like microneedling with RF, etc. The anti-aging goddess is crystal clear when it comes to lip augmentation and fillers — she will not give you a set of Kylie Jenner's Insta-beloved lips. She will, however, give you a perfectly hydrated-looking pout.
The point I would like to make is that experts in anti-aging and skincare note that the goal is to look hydrated. Other than chugging gallons of water and/or applying oil to my lips every couple of hours, the most effective dry lip treatment I have ever tried is Kari Gran's Lip Whip — and it is good for you, to boot.
New Launch: Lip Whip by Kari Gran
I am all about Kari Gran's minimalist, black-and-white packaging. However, when your lip products are as fabulous as Kari's, they deserve their own line and some brand new packaging. Introducing: Lip Whip by Kari Gran.
You can choose between untinted ("naked") or tinted peppermint and cinnamon balms, or 8 different pigmented hues to choose from, ranging in price from $20-$24. You can even now make selections with or without shimmer.
I received their Lip Whip by Kari Gran Peppermint Tinted ($20) and Lip Whip by Kari Gran Rosie Gold ($24). However, their peach-y nude Shimmer Lip Whip ($24) and rich Suji ($24) and Marsala ($24) shades look deliciously evening-appropriate as well.
In addition to these scrumptious lippies, I also received her brand new Lip Whip by Kari Gran Lip Perfector ($18). This gentle exfoliant goes on like a hydrating mask, before you gently scrub it off after 3-5 minutes — leaving behind plump, smooth lips that are ready for pigment.
One of my favorite things about the lip exfoliant is that the exfoliating beads are super gentle — not sharp, rough, or scratchy like some other polishes. Gentle beads — like the ones in Olive and M Facial Polish ($18) — allow for a more thorough facial massage, thereby creating better circulation and plumping for me personally.
Lastly, the ingredients are safe, straightforward, and ecologically sound. All of them have known skincare benefits and each blend is free of useless preservatives and fillers. Just look how short — and readable — that clean ingredient list is!
